Thanks for the reply Joe. Befor a purchased my pup two years ago, I had a vision of the type I wanted. Perhaps I got lucky since it turned out that I got exactly what I wanted. The breeder is from East Grand Forks M.N. and he breeds giants for folks who want a house/companion pet. My dog has an aoutomatic door so she can sleep in or out, of course the yard is fenced. She gets 3 to 8 hours of trail hiking per day and has been trained to pull a light ice fishing style sled tandem style with me. She was the slender girl of her litter and that is why I choose her. His females usually go 115# and up, the males are truly huge. Perhaps I should do the same and pick the smallest male of his next springs litter, or find a breeder of standards and choose the largest male pup. I found a breeder in Alaska (Donna Dowling) who is breeding a dog she calls A Mackenzie river huskie the dogs on her web site look very similiar in build to my dog, but she reguires her clients to sign a contract agreeing not to fix any her dogs until they are 8 yrs. old?? I guess I will have to keep thinking on theese things for a bit longer. I am looking forward to reading Malamute man and will order A copy soon. Thanks

Thanks Steven,
I am not real familiar with very many breeders that have the middle range malamutes. My team consists of a broad range of sizes. It works best for what I do since snow conditions vary so much in the Arctic. Most of our malamutes aren't as tall as yours. They might weigh as much but they are very wide which seems to be helpful breaking trail in the Arctic.

wow, really amazing! Beautiful dogs! I would like to know the size ranges of your dogs and bitches, heighth and weight. I have one female mal. She is a long lean and rangey type, not so wide, but long legged and very agile, (98# 30.5" at shoulder 26 months old) I live in N. Minnesota and I go on a annual winter camp trip into the B.W.C.A.W. ( boundry waters canoe area wilderness) I hope to add another dog to help with the gear hauling, and I would like it to be a male in the 100# range. These dogs are not so easy to find since most breeders are breeding giants or standard mals and my girl( cookie ) is a betweener. Any suggestions?

Welcome back to civilization Joe! Sounds like you and the dogs had an amazing expedition this year into the Brooks Range. The idea of travelling into a wilderness like this is tempting but for shure a challenge. Did you see any wild animals or tracks on the tour? and for how many days were you out in the wilderness? Enjoy the spring with your family now, and hug your team comrades!
